Surfing the concrete streets

Skateboarding was created by California surfers in the 1950’s as a way to surf the concrete streets.

“Skateboarders” started with wooden boxes attached to about a 30 inch two-by-four with roller skate wheels attached at the on the bottom. The boxes turned into planks, and eventually skateboarding companies were created and began producing skateboard decks which consisted of pressed layers of maple wood . During this time, skateboarding was seen as something to do as a warm up on the way to a surf spot or just for fun after surfing.

Check out what’s going on at Ski Haus Sports celebrating surfing those concrete streets!

Each year on June 21st, skaters around the world celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of our beloved sport by blowing off all our responsibilities and chores in order to go skateboarding. It’s called Go Skateboarding Day, and it’s the best day of the year.

On this holy day, skaters will show their love and support for skateboarding by holding fundraisers, contests, protests and demos. They’ll skate across cities, gather in skate parks, stream into local skate shops, and make pilgrimages to their favorite skate spots, all while taking part in the grind heard ‘round the world.

Wednesday June 21st is the first day of summer!
At Ski Haus Sports we are celebrating skateboarding all week with FREE skating on our ramps!
Friday June 16th – Friday June 23rd starts at 12:30 and goes until the store closes each evening!
